How to Sign a PDF Online for Free — Step by Step
- Upload your PDF: Click "Choose PDF" or drag and drop your file. It loads directly in your browser — nothing is sent to any server. PDFs of any size and page count are supported.
- Create your signature: Click "New Signature" in the right panel. Draw with your mouse, trackpad, or finger (on touchscreen), or type your name for a cursive render. Choose your pen colour and click "Use Signature".
- Place your signature: Drag it to the correct position — typically the signature line at the bottom of the contract. Use the corner handles to resize it. The signature is placed on whichever page is currently visible.
- Add name and date (optional): Use the "Name" and "Today's Date" toolbar buttons. For multi-page contracts requiring initials on every page, place your signature on each page individually.
- Download your signed PDF: Click "Download Signed PDF". Your browser generates the final file entirely on your device using PDF-Lib and begins a standard download. The output is a valid PDF with your signature embedded as a vector graphic.

Is an Electronic Signature Legally Valid?
In the vast majority of everyday situations — employment contracts, rental agreements, NDAs, freelance agreements, and service contracts — yes, an electronic signature created with SimpleSignPDF is legally valid and enforceable.
United States
The Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN Act, 2000) and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA, 1999) establish that electronic signatures have the same legal effect as handwritten signatures for most contracts.
